Another poem
Dear readers,
Danger. Awas. You scream
from every nook and cranny of your
crowded existence
that women in murderous stilettos
are at large, their sharpened heels ready to drive the
living daylights
out of mortal feet. Sometimes umbrellas
paint your marble face across with tracks of
unholy water
that the cleaner is left to mop up, and the
plastic sheaths you leave for them go
blissfully unnoticed
in the light of every neon Christmas. Do
you ever gasp at, or with, the couples who stroll
hand
in
hand
along your corridors? Sometimes I think
you, and only you, are the bravest Singaporean
not because you put up with the most passionate of our
national sports
but because you stay awake. The playpen that our daytime
illusion of an office tower retreats to, you put up with our
childish tantrums.
