Do we have time anymore
to be shocked by beauty, to be stung
by the whiplash of an
unfurling rainbow?

Or is it against our nature to
stop and stare, to
inhale – for once – the
calmness of a thousand springs?

Has watching a
puff of your breath
dissipate
in the night air
simply fallen out of fashion?

How about taking your eyes
off the red man
as you pause for thought at
a traffic junction,
and looking beyond
to the sunbeams scattering
off retreating clouds?

In the chill of the
lengthening days
we tend to forget
the gentle rush of time as it swirls
past our feet,
and away.
