Observations

Dear readers

do we often look through windows and wonder at the many things that happen around us - and we start to doubt that the science that governs our world can really account for every shade of meaning. 

Here are three observations.

The Straight Times Editor

Shadow.

Sometimes we wonder why
shadows are grey,
but never black.
Perhaps they, in their
manifold mockeries of light
turned a blind eye to
the little shafts
of hope that
trickle in from
around corners,
between door-cracks;
and sunbeams that scatter off
the backs of beetles as they
flutter through the window.


Trees.

I see trees
splitting the roads
in the rearview mirror.

Those who doubt that
the green of today
will soon be behind us,
behold and believe.


Rain.

We hear the pitter-patter
and we wonder
why blessings from above
arrive in pinheads.

Perhaps a reminder
to treasure every
drop of grace;
for too much of it
is an overwhelming
thing to ask for.
