You can smell fear.

Dear Readers,

tkwek apologizes - not so profusely, there isn't space for that many 'sorry's - about his week-plus-two-days hiatus. He's gotten over the guilty fit of dozing off in last week's assembly, but if you're thinking such hazards of school existence are few and far between, you're wrong. Dead wrong.

Concerts this past week have been enlightening, both positively and negatively, but tkwek will only post his recollections after saturday's kam ning concert - which he is exceptionally looking forward to :) ORA day, DI finals and OM finals are on that day too - so many people to support, so little time!! But that's alright. He'll work something out.

In the meantime, during the super fun lesson of dear Mr. Jacob Sam La Rose, RI's poet in residence, tkwek's class was asked to write about how a certain emotion would turn out if viewed by the five senses. And this is what tkwek got.

Just something to CHEW on

STATE OF FEAR

Taste:

Bile slipping down your face
fish-skins and frog-legs
A clammy tongue glued to the roof of your mouth -
a mouth dry as a parched desert under the midday sun...
yes, one full of sand and cotton

Feel:

Grabbing over a foggy cliff and finding nothing to grasp, getting
a blow in the stomach and a tingle down your spine
Snatching an ice-cube and the feeling's draining from your fingers,
replaced, slowly and surely, by the trickles of dripping water...
mingled with numbness

Hear:

Scratching of styrofoam - eek!
Squeak of rubber on polished floor, deafening silence of...
a stalagmite cave
desperation, of chickens scrabbling in the dirt at your feet
Beethoven's fifth symphony. Herbert Von Karajan, Berlin Phil.

Smell:

Anesthesia, sterile chemicals, Operating theatre
The sweat of a locker room after a football match
The pungent stench of your own laboured breathing
Rank, humid air pouring from your nostrils
As if you've been holding your breath...
For eternity.

See:

An expectant audience waiting for your first mistake
A tiger leaping from a wall
Lightning! A tsunami of worlds.
Foggy grey, flashes of white, darkness,
A mercedes slamming at you from around the corner
The hole in the rickety bridge that you...
just stepped into

i'm scared. tell me why.
