Promised poem
Well, here's the poem which i promised in the last post. Enjoy!
The banks of America’s east
Hold a sprawling metropolis
Where concrete conquers every space,
Trend and tradition interlace
In its bay stands a goddess grand,
Who from the crib brought up this land.
Twain centuries her age, Liberty her name,
The roots of society her claim to fame,
Gift of an artist, generously bestowed,
From ancient to youthful nation endowed,
Crossroads of continents her location,
Beacon of hope and faith her vocation.
“Flee the Depression, Flee the Strife!”
“Come enjoy the freedom of life!”
Torch aflame, gold tiara adorned,
Loyal as royal usher sworn,
Beckoning to a land of hard work and bliss,
Of honor, of love, of stability and peace.
Thus she endured ageless, countless storms,
Of slaves, of colonies, of new worlds born,
Forever serene, forever steadfast,
Through the decades of wind and rust,
Welcoming all who on hard work depend,
In search of a society into which all could blend.
Today she stands, firm, book in hand,
Guardian supreme, Matriarch Grand,
Loving grandmother who eyes her little ones,
Each generation embarking on life’s dance,
Holding fast the ideals of hope and faith,
That made this nation, that freed all slaves.
Comments from the Straight Times Editor:
Dear Readers, sorry to interrupt theokwek's commentaries of his wonderful voyage to America. His work has embarked on the genre of poems, and here he presents us a lovely one about the Statue of Liberty. Banish all thoughts of him slacking on his journeys - this is evidence that he writes on the go.
