Renewed Invitation to SNYO Concert

Dear Readers

A Concert brought to you by the SINGAPORE NATIONAL YOUTH ORCHESTRA (quite a mouthful, ain't it?) is coming up in two days time and tickets are selling.... not so fast. So there's always time to get your ticket, especially after you hear about the wonderfully balanced programme that we're putting up! There's something for everybody!

1) Garden Veils - For those who like GARDENS, NATURE and GARDENING, this is your piece. Setting the scene with a deeply oriental melody, it provides the best music for quiet and wholesome meditation (not sleep, please). And I'm sure you'll enjoy the climax, which is the nicest phrase in the whole piece.

2) Mendelssohn Concerto in E minor - A very nice piece. For violin enthusiasts coughCBWcough.

3) Death and Transfiguration (how do you pronounce Tod und Verklarung?) - This is the best piece of the programme. I think. Not just for those who are dying or waiting to do so, but a journey that will bring everybody on a tour of their own lives - their youth, their hardships, their simple joys are all reflected in the many colours of this piece. Especially at the last page. But aha! that's a surprise (See! I'm building up the suspense...)

4) Dance of the hours - This is a playful and enjoyable piece which provides relatively easy and exciting listening. This piece is for everybody too - violin technique buffs coughCBWcough can watch the entire first violin section and pick out the numerous intonation problems (mostly from theokwek); children can laugh and dance to the delightful melodies (but no screaming, please); parents can relax to a movie tune from the 80's. All in all, a piece of wholesome family enterntainment. Sort of.
