The Pianist
Dear Readers,
today theokwek hid a mysterious letter under the cover of the upright piano in my home - he has finally sent me his fufillment to a request by a certain member of the GEP-Music blogosphere by writing, for once, about the piano and its player. enjoy, and look forward to another upcoming essay!
P.S. theokwek looks to John Lee and Chu Lee Voon, two respected pianists whom he reveres and respects, to give their honest comments about his latest work. He will not be offended (i hope) as they are among his best of friends.

The Pianist
Applause
The violinist mounted
The varnished stage,
His accompanist only a step behind
Taking a seat on
The piano stool,
Giving his all to help another shine
"An A please"
The violinist whispered
Professionally,
Perfecting the crucial step of performance
He sounded the magic
Notes – G,D,A,E,
Blending together in a lonely cadence
A nod from the maestro
The pair began
The violinist launching
Into unmatched virtuosity
Always listening, following, counting,
The accompanist counters each
Moment of technicality
For he knew
He understood
He was
The power of the instrument
That lay, in alternating black and white,
Beneath his calloused fingertips:
The fury of the raging orchestra,
The daintiness of an ensemble,
The richness of a choir, a cappella,
The tones of a horn,
The power of a marching band
The glory of a singer
Hidden under his hand
Released with each tap of the finger
T'was wisely said
Selflessness is the best
Virtue
And the pianist, of all jobs,
Chose accompaniment as his humble
Fill.
Content to brew harmonies
For the stirring melodies
Of others who received
More applause
More acclaim
More fame
Than he.
